GREENFIELD — The 2016 Franklin County Fair poster, designed by 8-year-old Parker Beauregard of Greenfield, won a “Judges Choice” award this year in the Massachusetts Agricultural Fairs’ Association media awards competition. Beauregard is a Four Corners School student in Greenfield. His design was first featured on the Greenfield Light Pole Banners.

“The Judge’s Choice Award is the best of the best,” said Fred Steiner, president of the Franklin County Agricultural Society. Steiner said this was the first time the Franklin County Fair has received this highest honor in the 20 years he has attended the MAFA annual conferences.

“It’s a very great honor,” he said. “I cannot give enough thanks to little Parker and to Kaitlin Von Schmidt, of the (Franklin County) Chamber of Commerce.”

The poster also won a first place award in the “Major Fairs” designation. The Franklin County Fair also took second-place for newspaper advertising and placed third in the two categories of premium books and “potpourri.”

4H Fair lauded

Also, the Franklin County 4-H Fair, held at the Heath Fairgrounds, garnered three first-place awards in this media awards competition — all in the “Youth and Grange Fairs” designation. Those awards were for newspaper advertising, posters and premium books categories.

Thirteen fairs in Massachusetts participated in the competition, which drew 77 entries. The awards were presented during the organization’s annual meeting earlier this month in Sturbridge.
