The Franklin County Bulldogs’ championship bid came up short Saturday at Springfield Central High School, as West Brookfield earned a 22-12 victory in the Suburban Amateur Football League Junior Division Super Bowl.

Luc Belhumeur and Noah Ausikaitis scored the Bulldogs’ touchdowns. Belhumeur rushed for 89 yards and Ausikaitis added 37 yards on the ground. They also led the defense with 6 tackles each.

Levin Prondecki, Ian Simpson and Joseph White all recorded 5 tackles, Brayden Arsenault had 3 stops, Tanner Rowe and Hugh Cyhowksi added 2 takedowns, and Ryan Pulizari, Devin Emmond and JJ Shepard contributed 1 tackle each.

Oliver Postera, Gabe Tomasi, William Ainsworth and David Damkoehler played well on special teams.

Zewinski honored

Whately native and current Williston Northampton School football player Derek Zewinski was named Player of the Week for his defensive performance during a 53-21 loss to Salisbury on Saturday.

The senior captain finished with 8 tackles, a sack, an interception and several quarterback hurries.

NMH hoop wins

Andrew Platek totaled 20 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists to power Northfield Mount Hermon School over the Harvard JV, 90-49, in prep boys’ basketball action Saturday at Forslund Gymnasium in Gill.

Kellan Grady added 13 points and 4 assists, and Tomas Murphy had 12 points and 3 rebounds for the Hoggers, who led 38-22 at halftime.

Deerfield scores

Deerfield Academy’s girls’ team finished third and boys were fifth in the Interscholastic Cross Country Championship Saturday in Exeter, N.H.

Deerfield’s other varsity teams were swept by Choate Rosemary Hall — football lost 44-20, girls’ soccer fell 5-2, the boys lost 1-0, field hockey dropped a 1-0 verdict and volleyball was swept 3-0.

Two of the Big Green JV teams won — boys soccer (1-0) and field hockey (8-1). Football fell 31-20, and volleyball lost 3-0.

Locals at Westfield

Junior tailback Ryan Wilder of Turners Falls rushed for 113 yards during Westfield State’s 42-7 loss to Western Connecticut State in the MASCAC football season finale for both teams Friday night at Alumni Field in Westfield.

Wilder’s performance was highlighted a 51-yard run to set up the Owls’ only score.

Linebacker/punter John Ollari of Millers Falls had another solid game for WSU (2-8, 1-7 MASCAC) with 12 tackles and one interception. He also averaged 39 yards on eight punts, with a long of 48.

Bartak’s St. Anselm finale

Zach Bartak of Greenfield caught five passes for 45 yards in his final college game for Saint Anselm College in a 28-21 loss to American International College on Saturday in Springfield.

The Hawks finished 2-9 overall.

Youth hockey

FCHA results

Ethyn Clayton and Jamison Baleno each scored twice to lead FCHA J & J Hockey over Westfield, 10-5, in Pee Wee White Division youth hockey action Sunday at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield.

Dylan Mahar, Josh Bordeaux and Chris Phelps all finished with a goal and an assist, Roger Grondin Jr., Gabe Voudren and Jaxon Lavallee also scored, and Aydyn Clayton and Ben Carlan both notched an assist for J&J. Will Cowie made 16 saves in net.

• The Dillon Chevrolet Vipers lost a pair of GSL PeeWee North Division games over the weekend.

On Sunday, the Vipers lost, 2-1, to Brattleboro, Vt., at Nelson Withington Arena. MJ Paulin scored the lone Vipers goal, while Trevor Parkinson turned aside 23 shots. Paulin, Lila Roche, Dylan Archer, Jayson Smith and Hunter Smith played well on defense.

On Saturday, Trevor Kuchieski scored the lone goal in the Vipers’ 6-1 loss to Holy Name Black at Collins-Moylan Arena.

Matt Lavoine and Matt Provencal had the assists, and Parkinson made 33 saves.

• In a GSL Mite Division game at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield, FCHA Green bested Holy Name Black, 6-4. Chase Zraunig led FCHA with two goals and an assist. Luca Siano also scored twice, Shawn Bauman had a goal and an assist, and Stefan Flaska also scored. Carter Schloat made 16 saves in net.

Boucias top rookie

Former Mohawk Trail Regional High School and current Regis College cross-country runner Maddie Boucias finished third in the New England Collegiate Conference Championships Saturday at Stanley Park in Westfield.

Boucias, from Buckland, finished in 19 minutes, 40.57 seconds, and she earned NECC Rookie of the Year honors. She was part of a trio of Regis runners to take the top three spots in the NECC Championships and help the team win the team title.
