Alexa Whitney of Athol was one of four Westfield State University players to earn Little East Conference First Team All-Conference honors in field hockey.

Whitney, a senior defender, started 15 games for the Owls. She led the LEC and was sixth in the nation with 11 defensive saves.

FC Babe Ruth meeting

The Franklin County Babe Ruth Baseball Association will hold a general membership meeting on Monday at 7 p.m. at St. Kazimierz Society in Turners Falls.

Topics are the election of board members, fall baseball wrap-up, rule changes and any other new business.

College commitments

Deerfield resident Brian Davis was one of five Deerfield Academy student-athletes who made their official commitment to a Division I college in a joint ceremony at school on Wednesday.

Davis was one of four Big Green seniors who are playing lacrosse at the next level, as he signed his Letter to attend the University of Delaware. Kathryn Grennon of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, will take her talents to the College of William & Mary; Cole Fairman of Salt Lake City, Utah, is going to the University of Maryland; and Ted Sullivan of Tucson, Ariz., will head back west to go to the University of Denver.

Beau Dana of Marblehead signed his letter to play baseball at Georgetown University.

Over at Northfield Mount Hermon School, Kellan Grady signed a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday to play college basketball at Division I Davidson (N.C.) University.

Grady, a 6-foot-5 guard from West Roxbury, is the sixth Hogger to commit to a Division I school, joining teammates Matt Donahue (Quinnipiac), Jerome Desrosiers (Princeton), Andrew Platek (North Carolina), Tomas Murphy (Northeastern) and Matt DeWolf (Brown).

Field hockey

Deerfield defeated Williston-Northampton School, 1-0, in a prep field hockey game Wednesday in Deerfield.

Girls’ volleyball

St. Paul’s School defeated Deerfield, 3-1, in a girls’ prep volleyball match Wednesday in Deerfield.

Soccer

Northfield Mount Hermon School defeated Deerfield, 1-0, in a boys’ prep soccer match Wednesday in Deerfield.

• On the girls’ side, Wilbraham & Monson Academy defeated Deerfield, 2-1.

Water polo

Choate Rosemary Hall bested Deerfield, 10-7, in the New England Boys’ Water Polo Championship play-in game Wednesday in Wallingford, Conn.
