DEERFIELD — String music will reverberate through the box pews of Old Deerfield’s “Old Brick Church” this weekend.

Starting at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, the First Church of Deerfield at 71 Old Main St. will host the nationally acclaimed Adaskin String Trio.

According to a news release about the event, the trio was formed in 1984 and “performs throughout the United States and Canada. Their playing has been hailed for vigor, precision, spontaneity, intensity and charm.”

Jean Pitman Turner, artistic director of the Brick Church Music Series, which is sponsoring the event, said one of the trio’s musicians is from Franklin County.

Cellist Mark Fraser serves as director of the Mohawk Trail Concert Series based out of Charlemont.

The Brick Church Music Series sponsors music events throughout the year.

Turner said the last event “was very successful.”

Nov. 13: Music and Verse in a Sacred Space

Next weekend, Turner said on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 4 p.m., Music and Verse in a Sacred Space will return to the Old Deerfield church.

“The choruses from Deerfield Academy will join forces with the Deerfield Cappella and Orchestra, under the direction of Thomas Pousont,” she wrote in an email. “Local Deerfield authors Melissa Dickey and Andy Stallings will read their own poetry.”

“The choirs will present music of Bach, Brahms, Fauré and Haydn centered around a central theme of autumn and thanksgiving,” she continued, noting that the event “is free and open to the public; all are invited to attend.”
