NEW SALEM — The Friends of the New Salem Public Library plan to sponsor a special wine tasting from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Quabbin Sky Vineyard on Hunt Road on Nov. 5.
Quabbin Sky Vineyard Joyce and Phil Wiley will host the event and offer tastings of their locally made red and white wines. The Wileys will also share how they first decided to pursue winemaking in New Salem and give a tour of the winery. The Friends will prepare various hors d’oeuvres and a selection of cheeses to complement the wine tasting.
The event is a fundraiser for the Friends, who help support the New Salem library through book purchases, library equipment and furnishings, and a variety of programs for adults and children. Tickets are $20 and are limited to the first 30 buyers. They are now available for purchase from any Friends of the New Salem Public Library board member or at the library front desk.
Wendell OKs
smoking ban
WENDELL — Residents adopted all articles at a special town meeting on Oct. 20.
Two articles pertained to banning the lighting and smoking of tobacco or marijuana products and the consumption or transport of alcohol on town-owned property. An initial offense will result in a written warning, followed by a $50 fine for the second offense, $100 for the third, and $150 for the fourth or any subsequent offense. The alcohol article was amended to eliminate language about any street, roadway or sidewalk.
Adoption of another article transferred $77,679 from the stabilization fund to reduce the tax rate.
At the recommendation of the Conservation Commission, residents opted to postpone a vote on the article pertaining to a wetlands protection bylaw.
