SUNDERLAND — Native American music will fill Sunderland Public Library Tuesday for an Introduction to American Indian Music with local author and musician Craig Harris.

Harris wrote “Heartbeat, Warble, and the Electric Powow: American Indian Music.” The evening will be an “exciting multimedia journey into Indigenous North America’s vibrant soundscape from the ‘heartbeat’ of intertribal drums and the ‘warble’ of Native flutes,” according to event organizers.

Essentially, Harris’ music infuses traditional instruments, such as “powwow drums and end-blown woodwinds,” with more mainstream genres including jazz, reggae, country music, blues, hip-hop, and electronic dance music.

The event will start at 6 p.m. in the library, at 20 School St. just outside the center of town. More information can be found at www.sunderlandpubliclibrary.org.
