Northfield Mountain trails closed

NORTHFIELD — Several Northfield Mountain recreation trails will be closed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Saturday while crews perform electrical and civil work at Eversource’s Northfield substation and Erving switching station.

The work is associated with upgrades to the Northfield substation and creation of a new Erving switching station, according to the Northfield town website.

“Trail Closed” signs and spotters will be used in the vicinity of the following trails: Field Loop, B-Bar-W, Jug End, Hidden Quarry, Hemlock Hill, 10th Mountain, Lower Ledge, Rose Ledge and West Slope.

NORTHFIELD — Dickinson Memorial Library is hosting an olive oil tasting Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Northfield resident Julie Robinson will teach guests about olive oil’s history, how it’s made and what makes it vary in flavor, followed by a sampling session.

The event is sponsored by the Northfield Cultural Council.

Trip to Iceland topic at Senior Center

NORTHFIELD — Lorrie Byrom will give a presentation about her trip to Iceland at the Northfield Senior Center Thursday at 11 a.m.

Free movie screening Friday

LEYDEN — The Leyden Council on Aging is hosting a free screening of “Little Miss Sunshine” Friday at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. Popcorn will be provided.

The 2006 film follows the story of a family who embarks on a life-altering road trip to a California beauty pageant in hopes that their little Olive has what it takes to be a beauty queen.
