SOUTH DEERFIELD — Town police officers have a new contract following approval by the Selectboard.
Changes to the contract include higher wages, last updated in 2009, a slight increase in bereavement time off and a change in vacation time after 20 years working in the department, from four weeks to five weeks.
During a presentation to Selectboard members, Police Chief John Paciorek Jr. said he “went through the contract with a fine tooth comb,” adding that the contract should be put on the town’s website as soon as possible “so there are no secrets.”
Following his presentation, the board signed the contract, based at least in part on Paciorek Jr.’s review and approval.
WHATELY — The town is looking for someone to direct its library.
A recent help-wanted advertisement posted on the town’s website announces that “the Town of Whately is accepting applications for the position of Library Director. The position is appointed by the Library Trustees to perform professional, administrative and supervisory work.”
The job requires a bachelor’s degree, and asks that applicants have “considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of modern library systems and programs.”
The job provides benefits, and offers 22 hours per week, with an hourly wage range of $20 to $23 per hour, “depending on experience.” A master’s degree in library science is “preferred with two years minimum relevant experience.”
To apply, the notice asks applicants to “submit cover letter and resume to: whatelysecretary@comcast.net.” The position will remain open until it’s filled. Library officials will begin looking at resumes starting Nov. 8.

WHATELY — In preparation for the upcoming winter, the town Highway Department is selling cordwood.
According to a public notice posted on the town’s website, the Highway Department “will deliver a truckload for $250. The notice goes on to say that “a truckload averages 1.5 to 1.75 cords.”
The wood is available on a first-come, first-serve basis, while it lasts. Anyone interested in purchasing wood is asked to call Keith at 413-665-2983.
CONWAY — Fiscal year 2017 first half real estate and personal property bills are in the mail. According to a notice on the town’s website, the bills were mailed out Sept. 29, and are due Nov. 1.
For any questions about payment, the notice asks residents to call the Tax Collector’s Office at 369-4235 ext. 1. For questions about property assessment or assessed value, contact the Assessors Office at the same number, ext. 5.
