Living Fully, Aging Gracefully, and Befriending Death: Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Greenfield Senior Center, 54 High St. First meeting of this discussion and support group. First and third Mondays for seven months. Participants may attend regularly or occasionally. They are safe and supportive gatherings to talk about the joys and challenges of aging. Insurance information: Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Leyden Town Hall, Lorraine York-Edberg, program director for the Western Regional SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Everyone with Medicare) Program, will discuss the Part D Annual Open Enrollment and some of the important changes and updates for Medicare Beneficiaries.  She will be available after the presentation for questions. In the confusing world of health insurance, Medicare and additional coverage options, it is great to be able to have Lorraine share her knowledge of how to navigate through the system. Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group: Third Tuesday of the month at Congregational Church at the common from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the basement. The group is affiliated with the Alzheimer’s Association Massachusetts/New Hampshire chapter. The group is open to all persons caring for an individual suffering from Alzheimer’s type dementia. Early Childhood Screenings Regional: School Union #38 serving the towns of Conway, Deerfield, Sunderland, and Whately will be conducting its Annual Early Childhood Screenings on Friday, Oct.28. This screening is for children not currently enrolled in our preschool programs. If you have concerns about your child’s development in the above areas, please schedule a screening appointment by calling Rhonda at the Early Childhood office, 413-665-8928.  Please note that screening is not required for entrance into kindergarten or preschool, nor is it part of the process for selecting children for the preschool programs. Dams on the Deerfield River: On Tuesday, October 18 at 7 p.m., the Deerfield River Watershed Association will host an informative talk about dams on the Deerfield River at Four Rivers Charter School, 248 Colrain Road, Greenfield. Jason Canaday of Colrain will present on the details of how TransCanada manages water through a series of dams on the river. Canaday was the operator at Harriman Dam on the day that Tropical Storm Irene caused severe flooding throughout much of western Massachusetts and Vermont.

Stone Soup Cafe: Meal at All Souls Church, Greenfield, on Saturdays at noon. This is the only community meal on the weekend in Franklin County. Those who can afford to make a donation may do so while others who cannot are never discriminated against or turned away. Food includes vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.
