I would like to publicly thank our police chief, Steve Walker, for the service that he has provided to Shelburne and to wish him well in his all too early retirement.
I believe Chief Walker has given Shelburne a great gift. I believe that he has significantly improved the quality of life in Shelburne during his tenure.
Under his leadership, our police officers are respected, even admired, and not feared. By his own example, and by his choice of officers, Chief Walker has created a department that serves us well, and a legacy that he may be proud of.
We have an opportunity, and, I think, a responsibility, to ensure that the style of policing initiated by Chief Walker continues.
Among the smartest actions taken by Chief Walker was the hiring of the very young (at the time), Greg Bardwell. Working together as a team, they have provided us with police work in the best tradition. I can think of no better way to honor the Chief’s accomplishments than to promote the now Sgt. Bardwell to the position of chief.
He has done a wonderful job during this difficult time and has consistently represented the chief’s policies and values in an exemplary manner.
With Officer Bardwell in charge of the department, the residents of Shelburne would rest assured of a continuation of the high standards set by Chief Walker and to be proud of our police department.
