SHELBURNE — The Solarize Mass. Shelburne-Colrain-Conway project is holding a three-town celebration as it nears the finish line.

On Oct. 20 from 5 to 6:30 pm, the Solarize group will host a final gathering at the Shelburne Grange Fellowship Hall, located on Little Mohawk Road in Shelburne Center, near the First Congregational Church, off Route 2.

Participants will report on project achievements and share information with those still considering whether to take the plunge and “go solar.” The event is free and open to the public.

During a three-month marketing period to attract new solar photovoltaic customers, the program’s selected installer group — Solar Store of Greenfield, Grenergy Solar Store and Torrico Electric — conducted 227 free site assessments in the three towns. This resulted in 154 price proposals for solar pv systems designed to the specifications and preferences of those property owners. Of these, 43 have signed purchase contracts for new solar pv systems, and the remaining 111 recipients have until the end of October to sign a contract at the discount purchase price.

“I’m excited to report that my own newly installed 7.3 kilowatt solar system just got turned on a few weeks ago and is already generating power and lowering my electric bill,” said Shelburne Selectman Andrew Baker. According to Baker, one of the Solarize project organizers, “It’s a great time to go solar for those who are able and a great opportunity to contribute a small piece to our energy security and climate solutions challenge.”

Updated results for the project will be reported Oct. 20, with final results reported in November.
