Mahar Regional School scored four unanswered goals to rally from a 2-0 deficit and defeat Easthampton High School, 4-2, in an independent girls’ soccer match Friday afternoon at the Woodward Complex in Orange.

Angela Nardi scored seven minutes into the second half to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead, after Andie Hall scored on an assist from Maddie Grabowski in the first half.

Mahar (4-1-1) wasted little time in beginning its comeback, as Delaney Parker scored on an assist from Kianna Reilly 55 seconds after the Nardi goal to cut the deficit in half. From there, it was the McKenzie Tenney show.

Tenney tied the game 35 seconds after Parker scored, also on an assist from Reilly, and Tenney put Mahar ahead for good with a goal with 7 minutes, 10 seconds left. Reilly picked up her third helper of the day at that point. Tenney added an insurance goal with 3:05 left on an assist from Katie Cleveland.

Mahar outshot the Eagles, 30-11, and Marie Nottleson made seven saves to earn the win. Lily Pioli stopped 13 shots in the loss.

“We needed this one tonight,” Mahar coach Chad Softic said. “I loved how we kept our poise, even after being down, 2-0. We did a good job continuing to hit through balls, and we put a lot of pressure on their back three.”

Softic praised the effort of Tenney, who missed the 2015 season due to a torn ACL. The senior is closing in on 100 career points, and her coach said she looked like the player of old on Friday.

“You could just see the confidence and the finishing was back today, and that is great to see,” Softic said. “She really looked great today.”
