GILL — River Road in Gill, from Main Road to Barney Hale Road, is expected to reopen today. The Highway Department did road work in preparation for an upcoming re-paving of River Road.
MONTAGUE — The town clerk’s office will be closed today at 11 a.m. and closed again all day on Thursday. According to the office, the staff will be learning about new public records laws.
MONTAGUE — The Board of Assessors wants to remind owners of Chapter Land to file the fiscal year 2018 annual applications by Oct. 1. Visit the Town of Montague website for forms: www.montague-ma.gov. GILL — The town of Gill has voted in favor of a debt exemption that would allow the town to purchase a new police cruiser, and replace its oldest one. Gill has three police vehicle, and the new one will replace a 2005 Crown Victoria with over 120,000 miles on it.
The town has placed the order for the new vehicle, one Ford Police Interceptor Utility Vehicle and it is expected to arrive within three to four months, according to David Hastings, the Gill police chief.
The debt extension was brought to a vote during the state primary on Sept. 8, when it passed 115-71. The Selectboard then formally approved of the purchase at this week’s Selectboard meeting.
The Salasin Project is hosting an event with a special guest, Margaret Curran, from the Massachusetts Fair Housing Center, a leader in providing public education on fair housing and fair lending issues, according to a release from the Salasin Project. The training is free and open to the public, but registration is preferred. The speaker will discuss discrimination against families with children due to lead paint. She will also briefly cover other discrimination issues and how to address them.

The town of Montague is performing a repair on the town’s canal. The repair, which was approved by voters and cost $1 million started last week.
