DEERFIELD — After more than 40 years of providing service — and sandwiches — to the community, Savages’ Market at 470 Greenfield Road in Old Deerfield will close its doors for good at the end of this week.
On Tuesday afternoon, Lisa Savage, wife of store-owner Phil Savage, said the store will close for good on Friday. She said the business, which was established in 1975, has been up for sale for three years without a single offer.
“They provided the town with excellent service for the last 41 years,” said town Building Commissioner Richard Calisewski in response to the news of the closing. “I’m very sorry — that’s going to be a big loss for the Old Deerfield Community.”
HG Johnson Real Estate lists the business’ 4,259 square-foot building, along with its almost acre of land, and brand as for sale, asking price of $395,000.
The business is described on the agency’s website as “family built,” and a “successful deli, market” with beer and wine selections. It goes on to say it has a “great commercial location, centrally located on an active road which yields high visibility.”
Included in the listing is a one-bedroom apartment above the grocery store is.
