TURNERS FALLS — Tuesday night’s school committee will include a time for public input about the Turners Falls High School mascot debate. Later in the meeting, the School Committee will also discuss the much- talked-about proposal and potenitally vote on it.

The meeting begins with an executive session at 6 p.m. the public portion of the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the TV studio at Turners Falls High School.

The proposal, which was presented at the last meeting, would start a review process for the school’s mascot, currently the Indians. If the proposal is passed on Tuesday, it does not mean that the mascot will automatically change.

In an email to committee members and media, chairman Mike Langknecht said that since it is the second reading of the proposal, members should be encouraged to ask questions and be prepared to vote.

“If we’re in agreement on having a process, this is where your comments, questions, concerns, suggestions and alterations convert the proposed language to an action plan with clear guiding principals,” Langknecht said in the email.
