Mae Rice-Lesure scored a pair of first-half goals on Friday afternoon and Mohawk Trail Regional High School defeated Drury High School, 2-0, in an independent girls’ soccer game in Buckland.
Rice-Lesure put the Warriors (3-2-0) ahead in the seventh minute when she received a through ball from Jaxon Palmer and dribbled in on Drury goalie Allie Broussard (14 saves), who came charging off her line. Rice-Lesure chipped the ball over the oncoming netminder for a 1-0 lead.
Rice-Lesure struck again in the first half on an identical play, this time after receiving a pass ball from Sarah Gokey.
That was all the support that Mohawk goalie Lily Seaver needed, as she stopped all 9 shots she faced to pick up the shutout.
“This is a very good win for the girls,” Mohawk coach Steve Tomi said. “We have a young team, but our theme this year is courage, and they showed courage like the Warriors they are. We played very well against a very good team and I’m very proud of the girls.”
FC Tech 2, Putnam 1 — Brooke Adams scored a goal and added an assist as Franklin County Technical School held on for a 2-1 win over Putnam Technical Academy in a Tri-County League girls’ soccer match Friday in Turners Falls.
Adams opened the scoring for the Eagles (2-3-1, 1-3-1 TCL) in the ninth minute, as she took a pass from Keltyn Socquet in front of an open net and tapped it in.
Adams set up the second tally right out of the intermission, sending a cross into the middle of the penalty area and Rachel Shearer headed it into the back of the net.
The Beavers’ Olivia Goodrow cut the score in half on a pass from Naydeliz Ramirez, but Tabi Hamilton preserved the win, finishing with 11 saves.
Greenfield 8, Duggan Academy 5 — Sylvian Popusoi scored four goals and Asir Areta added three as Greenfield High School rolled past Duggan Academy, 8-5, in an independent boys’ soccer match Friday in Greenfield.
After getting shut out Thursday, the Green Wave scored five first-half goals.
“We played pretty well today, considering we played last night,” said Greenfield head coach Kent McGahan “We did a good job in the first half of pushing the ball ahead and getting our forwards in one-on-one matchups with their fullbacks and we were able to take advantage.”
John Diaz also added a score for Greenfield in support of goalie Hunter Campbell, who stopped 8 shots. Slygence Rejouis tallied four goals for Duggan while Juan Hernandez stopped 12 shots in net.
Mahar 7, Mohawk 0 — Connor Arsenault scored two goals as Mahar Regional School rolled to a 7-0 win over Mohawk in a boys’ McGrath North Division soccer match Friday night in Buckland.
Jamie Temple, Brennan Mailloux, Matt Jenks, Issak Reinikainen and Levi Baruch aloso scored for the Senators (4-1-0, 3-0-0). Bryce Cleveland made 3 saves and Roger Hamlett added 5 stops for the shared shutout.
Souhan Crawford and Wyatt Bandy-Page each made 8 saves for the Warriors (0-4-1, 0-2-1).
Smith Academy 1, Mohawk 0 — Vanessa Skawski scored with 11 minutes remaining in the game as Smith Academy earned a 1-0 victory over Mohawk in a North Division field hockey game Friday in Hatfield.
Skawski scored the lone goal on a redirection off of a corner. Izzy Duseau received a pass, fired a shot from the top of the penalty circle and Skawski tipped it past Warriors keeper Eloise Perrea.
Perrea made 11 stops in net for the Warriors while Teaghan Cavanaugh stopped 1 shot in goal to earn the shutout.
Turners 3, Mahar 1 — Abby Loynd finished with 9 kills, 8 digs and 2 aces, to help Turners Falls High School earn a 22-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-19 win over Mahar Regional School in a PVIAC North Division girls’ volleyball match Friday night in Orange.
Jordyn Fiske registered 6 aces, 6 kills and 7 digs, Sienna Dillensneider added 8 aces and 19 assists and Tess Hunter belted 4 aces, 7 kills and 10 digs for the Indians (3-4).
Maeve Powell totaled 8 aces and 2 aces for Mahar (0-7) while Sophie Smith added 5 kills, 5 aces and 4 digs.
Sabis 3, Mohawk 0 — Gabby Sheen registered 3 kills and 8 digs for Mohawk but the Warriors fell to Sabis International Charter School, 25-8, 25-16, 25-8, in an independent girls’ volleyball game Friday in Springfield.
Makenzie Mayhew added 2 kills, 7 digs and 2 aces for the Warriors.
West Springfield 21½, FC Tech 2½ — Danny Otuole fired a 40 and took 3½ points to lead West Springfield High School to a 21½-2½ win over Franklin County Tech in an independent golf match Friday afternoon at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls.
Zack Butler and Camden Smith each added 3 points for the Terriers.
Travis Cutting and Hunter Sessions each earned a point for FC Tech.
