Franklin County Tech is starting to find its offense just in time for the league campaign.
Ashlee Townslee netted a natural hat trick, and two goals a minute apart erased an early deficit as the Eagles downed Athol High School, 4-1, in a PVIAC West Division field hockey game Wednesday in Turners Falls.
The Red Raiders struck first when Lexi Cucchi smacked home a shot at the 18-minute mark, assisted by Nina Alvarez.
Townsley started her scoring flurry with 8 minutes left in the first half after receiving a pass from Erin O’Neil. She came right back down to score the go-ahead goal a minute later, assisted by Sergio Perez.
Townsley completed her hat trick 9 minutes into the second half, while Perez notched the final tally at the 17-minute mark. Both goals were unassisted.
Franklin Tech held a 19-3 advantage in shots and 9-2 in corners. Kailynn Mason-Emond recorded 2 saves for the Eagles, while the Red Raiders’ Hudson Carlson was credited with 15 stops.
“(Carlson) is good,” said Franklin Tech coach and newlywed Amber (Coburn) Crochier. “He moved well but were there to score. … We had a really good practice (Tuesday), and we came out and executed well todayl.”
Franklin Tech (2-4-0 overall, 2-2-0 West) continues West Division play Monday with a trip to Pioneer at 4 p.m.
Turners 3, Pioneer 0 — Sienna Dillensneider racked up 18 assists, 7 digs, 4 aces and 2 kills to help Turners Falls High School get past Pioneer Valley Regional School, 26-24, 25-21, 25-20, in a PVIAC Northern Division girls’ volleyball match Wednesday in Turners Falls.
Abby Loynd totaled 7 kills, 3 aces and 3 digs, and Tess Hunter added 6 kills and 2 aces for the Indians (2-4, 1-1 North).
Maddy Tyson recorded 8 kills and 4 blocks, Hanna Buedinger had 15 digs and 2 aces, and Lizzie Fuller finished with 10 digs, 6 kills and 2 aces for the Panthers (1-6, 1-2), who were playing their third league match in as many days.
Turners Falls heads to Mahar Regional School on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. match.
Athol 3, Mahar 1 — Athol bounced back from a first-set loss to defeat arch-rival Mahar Regional School, 15-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-21, in a PVIAC Northern Division volleyball match Wednesday at Mallet Gymnasium in Athol.
Hope Parker led the Red Raiders (5-2, 2-0 North) with a match-high 18 kills, 4 aces and 3 digs. Julia Ramos dished out 17 assists and added 5 kills and 4 aces, Jess Souice totaled 6 kills and 3 digs, and Hannah Arsenault contributed 3 aces and 3 kills.
Aria Flematti finished with 12 assists and 3 aces, while Lauren Henne collected 17 digs and 3 aces for the Senators (0-6, 0-1 North). Sophie Smith pitched in with 7 aces, 8 digs and 3 kills, Quincey Drew had 4 kills, 6 digs and 1 ace, Maeve Powell notched 5 kills and 4 aces, and Jordyn Berry chipped in 4 kills.
Athol hosts Ware High School Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
FC Tech 3, Renaissance 1 — Franklin Tech earned its first win of the season with a 15-25, 26-24, 26-24, 25-12 Metro Division girls’ volleyball victory over Renaissance School Wednesday in Turners Falls.
Jocelyn Holloway backstopped the win with 10 aces, 2 digs and 1 assist. Reagan Fiske totaled 4 aces, 3 digs and 2 kills, and Summer Gaudreau added 5 kills, 2 digs, 1 ace 1 assist and 1 block for the Eagles (1-6, 1-2 Metro).
Lexi Figueroa led the Phoenix (1-5, 0-2 Metro) with 5 digs and 3 assists, while Tiana Green had 7 aces and 1 block.
Franklin Tech hosts Smith Vocational & Agricultural High School Monday at 5 p.m.

Smith Voke 15, Pioneer 45 — Pioneer dropped a trio of meets to Hampden Charter School of Science (25-30), Southwick-Tolland Regional High School (18-40) and Smith Voke (15-45) in independent an boys’ cross country quadrangular meet Wednesday at Forest Park in Springfield.
Bill Carroll of Southwick won the 3.1-mile race in 18:36.
Gavin Curtis was the first Panthers to cross the finish line, placing 13th overall in a time of 23:05. Alex Wahlstrom finished 14th, also in 23:05.

Hampden 17, Pioneer 41
Southwick 15, Pioneer 50 — Pioneer went 1-2 overall during an independent girls’ cross country quadrangular meet Wednesday at Forest Park.
The Panthers beat Smith Voke (25-30) and lost to Hampden Charter (17-41) and Southwick (15-50).
The Rams’ Becca Drohen recorded a final time of 23:12 to win the 3.1-mile race.
Pioneer’s Chloe Cutting placed 12th overall in 29:04.
Four Rivers boys second
Four Rivers Charter School finished second overall out of seven schools with 54 points in a River Valley Athletic League boys’ cross country meet Wednesday in Dublin, N.H.
Dublin won the race with 42 points.
The Otters’ Mac Sloan-Anderson won the overall race in 17:35 on the 3.1-mile course. He was one of three top-10 finishers for Four Rivers. Oscar Gibson was third overall in 18:59, and Casey Davey took eighth in 19:42. Rounding out the Otters’ scoring were Jayden Skelly in 15th (21:01) and Eli Smith in 27th (22:31).
Two girls ran individually for Four Rivers — Jemma Dickson finished 20th overall in 28:17, and Lily Harris-Hendry was 25th in 28:58.
Pathfinder 10½, FC Tech 9½ — Joe Conkey and Jacob Allard swept 4 points each to lead Pathfinder Vocational High School to a 10½-9½ win over Franklin County Tech in an independent golf match Wednesday at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club.
Conkey was match medalist with a 41.
Hunter Sessions took 4 points and Dante Rosado shot a team-low 44 and took 3 points for the Eagles (0-4).
