GOSHEN — Massachusetts Environmental Police have seized 47 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of between $141,000 and $188,000 that were growing at the Daughters of the American Revolution State Forest off Route 112.

Each plant has an estimated street value of $3,000 to $4,000, according to the state agency.

The grow site was discovered by an Environmental Police officer patrolling the state forest about 5 p.m. Thursday, according to Katie Gronendyke, a spokeswoman for the agency.

“The Environmental Police believe the plants may have been in the forest for five to six months,” Gronendyke said. “Environmental Police often find marijuana growing on public lands.”

She said the marijuana was turned over to the Massachusetts State Police, who will dispose of it.

The DAR State Forest is managed by the state Department of Conservation and Recreation. It was created after the Daughters of the American Revolution donated 1,020 acres for a state forest in 1929. An additional 750 acres have been acquired since then that includes the Upper and Lower Highland Lakes. The park is home to a popular swimming beach, hiking trails, picnic area and campground with 51 wooded campsites.
