SUNDERLAND — It’s been almost exactly two years since the town purchased property at 120 North Main St. with the intent to bring more affordable senior housing into town. Now town officials are asking for permission to move forward with those plans.
Today during a special town meeting at 7 p.m. at the Sunderland Elementary School, selectmen will ask voters to authorize the board to convey the property to advance the development.
“The thought was no designer would want to submit a request for proposals if the town didn’t have permission to sell the land,” Town Administrator Sherry Patch said Monday.
The Selectboard drafted a request for proposals for an affordable housing development last month. Earlier this year, the town was awarded a $6,500 grant from the Franklin Regional Council of Governments for technical assistance in developing a proposal.
The vote requires a two-thirds majority.
Also on the warrant for Tuesday night is an $18,000 payout from the Stabilization Account to fund “out-of-district tuition and transportation for one Sunderland student attending Smith Vocational Technical High School” in Northampton.
Another vote will or will not transfer $32,419 from the Stabilization Account to pay for fiscal year 2017 town employee health care costs.
