Molley Duclos racked up a match-high 12 kills and added 3 digs and 2 blocks to help Greenfield High School defeat Pioneer Valley Regional School, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21, in the North Division girls’ volleyball opener for both schools Monday night at Nichols Gymnasium in Greenfield.

Amy Muniz aided the win with a dozen assists for the Green Wave (1-4 overall, 1-0 North), and Casey Noyes totaled 13 digs and 9 aces, seven of which were consecutive in the third set to help Greenfield overcome a late deficit and eventually close out the match.

Caroline Merkle led the Panthers (0-5, 0-1) with 16 assists and 5 aces. Lizzie Fuller added 6 kills and 3 aces, and Kiana McGraw contributed 4 aces, 4 digs and 2 blocks.

“I have players with a lot of potential,” said Green Wave head coach Lisa Moore. “As a team, they’re starting to put it together.”

Greenfield doesn’t return to match action until Sept. 27 against Mahar at home at 7 p.m. Pioneer, meanwhile, goes right back to the court today at 5 p.m. when it hosts Mohawk Trail Regional High School.

Athol 3, Turners 0 — Hope Parker fired home 13 kills and 4 aces to power Athol High School to a 25-12, 25-17, 26-24 victory over Turners Falls High School in a North Division girls’ volleyball match Monday at Mallet Gymnasium in Athol.

Julia Ramos dished out a dozen assists for the Red Raiders. Jess Soucie chipped in with 5 aces and 3 kills.

“I didn’t think we played great, to be honest,” said Athol head coach Amber Parker. “I think we’re better than a lot of people thought we were going to be. Jess and Abby (Leadbetter) have stepped up and embraced the leadership roles, and that’s made a big difference.”

Athol (4-2, 1-0 North) hosts archrival Mahar Regional School Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Sci-Tech 3, FC Tech 0 — Javelin Parra registered 10 assists and 4 kills to help Springfield High School of Science & Technology defeat Franklin County Technical School, 25-10, 25-16, 25-19, in a Metro Division girls’ volleyball match Monday in Springfield.

Jade Cross added 6 aces for the CyberCats.

Leah Wozniak collected 4 aces and 1 dig, Kimmie Petrowicz added 2 aces, 3 digs and 1 block, and and Cobi Hardin chipped in 2 kills for the Eagles.

Franklin Tech hosts Renaissance School on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Golf

Greenfield 23½, Turners ½ — Tyler Boissonneault fired a 1-under 33 and took 4 points to lead Greenfield over Turners Falls, 23½-½, in a Bi-County League North golf match Monday at the Country Club of Greenfield.

George Balis and Hunter Roberts each shot 42 and swept 4 points for the Green Wave, and Christian LaPlante (44) added 3½ points. Greenfield also won two via forfeit.

Brian Poirier took the only half-point for the Indians.

Greenfield (2-2) travels to Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club to take on Franklin Tech today at 3 p.m.
