Orange needs poll workers

ORANGE – More election workers are needed for the for Nov. 8 election.

In addition to state and national contests on the ballot, there will be a special election to replace Selectman Walter Herk, who resigned a couple of weeks ago.

Mount Grace trust celebrates Oct. 1

ATHOL – The Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust invites the public to Susie and Ben Feldman’s newly-protected farm and forest property at 586 Briggs Road on Oct. 1 to celebrate 30 years of land conservation.

The celebration is expected to last from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. At 10 a.m., people will allowed to explore the Feldman property with one of four guided tours — a walk showcasing forestry on the land, a farm and cultural history tour, a nature hike, or a scavenger hunt. At 11 a.m., the party moves under tents for a silent auction, lunch by Wendell’s Diemand Farm, and stories of the land featuring Double Edge Theatre’s Carlos Uriona. From 1 to 4 p.m., the festivities continue with local beer and with music from The Green Sisters, an eclectic folk-bluegrass quartet from Hubbardston, followed by the “BBQ Rock and Roll” sound of Trailer Park from Northampton.

Tickets are $30, and support efforts to conserve special places in the region. Those wishing to attend should pre-purchase tickets or RSVP to save a seat. Tickets can be purchased at mountgrace.org or by calling 978-248-2055, ext. 17.

Dems to gather

Democrats in Wendell, New Salem, Leverett and Shutesbury will be gathering on Sept. 25 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Shutesbury Athletic Club on Wendell Road.

State Senate President Stan Rosenberg and State Reps. Steve Kulik and Ellen Story will participate in the “Democratic Party.” Participants are invited to bring “finger food.” Lemonade will be provided, and the Shutesbury Athletic Club also offers a full cash bar to toast yourDemocratic candidates.
