Recently I had a wonderful bike ride on the rail trail going South from Turners Falls.
While I waited for my son, I enjoyed Unity Park. I had seen a lot of newspaper coverage of it but never seen how beautiful it was and how great the facilities are that the Town of Montague provides. They are to be commended.
The bike ride was very enjoyable and interesting with all the information about the wildlife provided. We would have liked to have seen more about the industrial and railroad history too. There seem to be some rail trail signs missing near Depot Street. We rode all the way to the East Deerfield freight yard but were confused by the signage south of there.
The trip back was equally enjoyable with the church spires of Turners Falls in the distance. Besides a bike trail sign at McClellan Farm Road, it would be nice to have some signs saying where else the trail goes and what the distances are.
We also enjoyed a delicious lunch in town.
