Frontier Regional School had five runners in the top 10 overall and edged Greenfield High School, 25-30, in a Pioneer North boys’ cross country race Tuesday at Highland Park in Greenfield.

Both Frontier (19-44) and Greenfield (19-41) defeated Franklin County Technical School on the day.

Isaiah Morrison won the 3.1-mile race for the host Green Wave in 19:47 but Carsten Carey came in just behind him at 19:59 to give Frontier second place. Sohan Tyner finished third overall in 20:03 and was the only Eagles’ runner in the top 10.

Frontier (3-0) took command of the race in the middle of the top 10 as three of the next four runners belonged to the Red Hawks. Alex Sharp took fourth overall in 20:09 to beat Greenfield’s Tyssen LaBombard (20:10) by one second. Brandyn Robinson (20:59) and Ben Litskoski (21:04) finished sixth and seventh for the Red Hawks.

Greenfield’s Matteo Velez (21:15) and Dylan Badillo (21:35) came back for the Green Wave (2-1) with eighth- and ninth-place finishes before Dan Dejnak closed out the victory for Frontier as the fifth Red Hawk to cross the line, placing 10th overall in 21:40.

Mohawk 15, McCann Tech 45 — Five of the first seven runners to cross the finish line Tuesday belonged to Mohawk and the Warriors cruised to a 15-39 win over McCann Tech in North Adams.

Luke Viens (17:58) and Zach Coburn (17:59) finished one second apart to win the race for the Warriors (3-0). Hopkins Academy, who Mohawk was not running on the day but was running against McCann Tech, had the next runner cross, but Seth Hoynoski was third in 18:11, and Brian Allen finished fourth in 18:18. Guy Rice-Lesuire was fifth overall in 20:24, and Maximilian Carr was sixth in 20:32.

Billy Galipeau was the first McCann Tech runner to cross the line, placing seventh in 21:09.

Granby 22, Pioneer 35

Pioneer 23, St. Mary 32 — Alex Wahlstrom finished fourth for Pioneer and the Panthers earned a North Division tri-meet split with a 23-32 win over St. Mary’s, and a 22-35 loss to Granby.

Joe Walz won the 3.1-mile race for St. Mary’s in 20:20 to beat every other runner by over two minutes. Sam Gould (22:41) and Andrew Hutchinson (22:50) were the next two runners across the line for Granby, and Wahlstrom was next with his fourth-place time of 22:56.

Alex Gould was fifth for Granby in 23:06 while Gavin Curtis took sixth for Pioneer in 25:03. Brian Bodenstein made it back-to-back Panthers with his seventh-place time of 25:04 and Henry Curtis was 10th overall for Pioneer in 26:07.

Hampshire 24, Mahar 31

Pope Francis 18, Mahar 37 — Ash Shaw came in fourth overall for Mahar Regional School but the Senators suffered a pair of independent boys’ cross country losses Tuesday in Holyoke.

The Senators suffered a 18-37 loss to Pope Francis High School, and a 24-31 loss to Hampshire Regional High School.

Tim Sears won the 2.7-mile race in 14:57 for Pope Francis, while teammate Matt Ashe was second in 16:01. Chris Veyda was third for Hampshire in 16:25, and Shaw was next for the Senators in 16:54.

Mahar also had Andrew Hill in the top 10 with a ninth-place time of 17:22.

Girls’ meets

Greenfield 22, Frontier 35

Frontier Regional School may have had five runners cross the finish line before five Greenfield High School runners crossed, but the Green Wave placed the first four runners and the Wave remained unbeaten with a 22-35 victory over the Red Hawks in a Pioneer North girls’ cross country meet Tuesday at Highland Park in Greenfield.

The Green Wave (2-0) had the first four runners of the race but Frontier followed with the next five. It was too little, too late for the Red Hawks, who fell to 1-2 on the season.

Amy O’Sullivan won the 3.1-mile race for the Green Wave in 22 minutes, 10 seconds and Jamie Day was second overall in 23:42. Jenna Silk finished third in 24:12, and Sarah O’Sullivan was fourth in 25:52.

Frontier then had its string of runners finish fifth through ninth. Greyson Young (26:09) took fifth, Fiona Ferry (26:37) was sixth, Skyler Dennie (28:26) was seventh, Emily Laus (28:27) was eighth and Lia Vichi was ninth (29:08).

Greenfield’s Olivia Warren was 10th overall in 29:38.

Mohawk 15, McCann Tech 50 — Mohawk Trail Regional High School placed nine of the top 10 runners to rout McCann Technical High School, 15-50, in a North Division girls’ meet in North Adams.

Mohawk’s leading triumvirate of Meghan Davis, Lilly Wells and Jackie Wells paced the field. Davis won the 2.6-mile race in 18:28 and may have broken the course record, while Lilly Wells came in second in 18:55, and Jackie Wells was third in 19:32. McCann is going to check today to find out if Davis did in fact break the mark.

A four-plus minute gap then occurred before the next runners came across. Tyler Rice was fourth overall in 23:51 for the Warriors, and Clarissa Pollard was fifth in 24:03. Erika Looman was sixth in 24:37 and Carly Cusimano was seventh in 25:13.

McCann’s Hope Blake was the lone Hornet in the top 10 with her eighth-place time of 25:45, while Hollin Keyser-Parker was ninth in 26:05, and Erica Szewczyk was 10th in 28:25.

Granby 23, Pioneer 33

Pioneer 26, St. Mary’s 29 — Chloe Cutting finished third overall for Pioneer Valley Regional School as the Panthers split a North Division tri-meet Tuesday in Granby.

The Panthers defeated St. Mary’s Parish School, 26-29, but fell to Granby High School, 23-33.

Granby’s Jenna Learned won the 3.1-mile race in 26:34, and Alison Rougemont finished second in 27:28 for St. Mary’s. Cutting was third for the Panthers in 27:33, and teammate Mary Ellis was fourth in 28:52.

Pioneer (1-2) also had Maddy LaValley finished 10th overall in 34:02.
