GREENFIELD — Two Greenfield brothers have been arraigned on charges of breaking into their father’s home and stealing seven guns from a locked gun collection this summer.

Nicholas M. White, 38, of Greenfield is facing three counts of breaking and entering to commit a felony, three counts of stealing firearms, receiving stolen property (a chain saw), and one count of conspiracy to commit a crime. The guns were believed to have been stolen sometime between July 6 and 14.

Brennan White, 35, of Greenfield was arrested Friday on charges of breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony and of taking firearms worth more than $250.

According to Greenfield Police reports, on July 14, Peter White discovered the guns missing from his firearm-secure room in the basement. He said when he went to unlock the keyed deadbolt to the door, he noticed it was in the unlocked position. He immediately saw rifles missing from stock racks along a back wall and found that several handguns, kept inside a plastic rifle case, were missing or stolen.

The missing rifles include a Russian Mini-14 223 semi-automatic rifle with an empty 30-round clip; and a Chinese SKS 762 semi-automatic rifle with bayonet.

The missing handguns include: a .44-caliber Smith & Wesson 6-inch revolver; a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson police special revolver; a .22-caliber Colt revolver; a .22-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver and a .22-caliber Smith & Wesson target pistol. Also gone is a .357-caliber Italian 10 revolver.

These weapons have not yet been recovered.

William P. Breor Jr. of Orange was arraigned with Nicholas White on Thursday. Breor faces charges of breaking into Peter White’s barn on Sept. 1 and taking a Stihl chain saw valued at about $500.

According to the police report, Nicholas White was not with Breor when the saw was taken, but admitted to arranging to sell it for $80, to buy drugs for Breor and Nicholas’ brother.

“Nick stated Brennan has a bad drug addiction, so he buys the drugs Brennan needs. He stated he’s tired of seeing Brennan crying all the time because he is dope-sick,” says the report filed by Greenfield Police Detective Christopher Greene.

Both White and Breor pleaded innocent Thursday in Greenfield District Court. Their pretrial hearing is scheduled for Oct. 5. Bail for White was set at $2,500 cash or $25,000 bond. Bail for Breor was set at $500 cash or $5,000 bond.

On Friday, an innocent plea was entered for Brennan White, whose pretrial hearing is Nov. 2. Bail was set at $500 with the condition that he undergo alcohol and drug screenings.
