SOUTH DEERFIELD — A motorcyclist escaped serious injury after striking a deer on Routes 5 and 10 in South Deerfield Tuesday night.
Deerfield Police Sgt. Harry Ruddock said the male driver, who he did not name, received minor injuries and declined to be transported to the hospital. The deer, however, died.
The accident happened around 8:40 p.m. on a dark stretch of road just north of the South Deerfield Fire Department.
“People do have to be extremely aware, especially this time of season,” Ruddock said. “Deer are on the move.”
He added certain highways have deer crossings, including Routes 5 and 10 where the crash occurred.
