SHELBURNE — The town’s Agricultural Commission will host a Shelburne Harvest Dinner on Saturday, Sept. 17, and almost everything on the menu was either grown in Shelburne or made locally.

Shinglebrook Farm will provide Berkshire pork, a heritage breed, for the dinner’s pork roast. The beef roast will be made from Wheel-View and Foxbard farms’ grass-fed cattle, and the meat for lamb stew will come from Barberic and Dragon Brook farms. Apex Orchard, Kelley Farm, Springdelle Farm and Prudence Wholey will provide the vegetables. Dessert will include apple crisp a la mode and maple ice cream from Hager’s Farm. Shelburne Coffee Roasters will provide the coffee.

The buffet dinner will begin at 6 p.m. inside the Fellowship Hall in Shelburne Center, 17 Little Mohawk Road. Tickets are $15 each and are limited to 120, because that is how many diners the hall can accommodate. Those who want to attend are encouraged to reserve their tickets early by calling Beth Manning at 413-625-9967.

The evening will also include a “Then and Now” slide show that honors the town’s century-old farms. Families that have been farming in Shelburne for at least 100 years include: the Davenports (Davenport Maple Farm), the Dole family, the Goulds, the Graves, the Herrons, the Kelleys, the Williams family (Maple Ledge Jerseys), the Wheelers (Wheel-View Farm) and the Coombs (Coombs Hill Farm).

According to Barbara Parry, the Agricultural Commission hosted a similar dinner two years ago, which was a success.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit future Agricultural Commission projects.
