Live theater is coming back to Memorial Hall in Shelburne Falls this month with “Dixie Swim Club.”

The play is about five Southern women and the constancy of their lifelong friendships forged on a college swim team.

They will dive into five performances, beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16, 17, 23, and 24, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. Tickets can be reserved through: dixieswimtickets@gmail.com; only cash and checks at the door.

Five actresses who have done hundreds of plays in Franklin County and beyond are acting in and producing the show with the Shelburne Falls Memorial Hall board.

The women believe it’s time for Shelburne Falls to have a theater group in town again.

Over the past two years, the five actresses produced staged readings of the play in Ashfield and Brattleboro, Vt., but wanted to do a full production of the hilarious play.

“Dixie Swim Club” celebrates the dynamics of female friendships — college buddies, sisters, neighbors — and the long-lasting love, challenges and great girls’ weekends that are a part of those friendships. The story takes the women through 50-some years.

The play stars Sue Tracy of Ashfield, Julie Sarsynski of Deerfield, Louise Krieger of Sunderland, Sue Davis of Williamsburg and Jackie Walsh of Shelburne Falls.
