Recently there has been a proposal to alter trash collection to only one side of the street. As a taxpayer and one who purchases the stickers for each bag, I wish to disagree.
At best, this will be an inconvenience and for many others a hardship. Carrying heavy trash bags across busy streets will be difficult if not impossible for many physically-challenged individuals, the elderly and even those who are able-bodied. Snow and ice contributes to fall risks in our climate.
Recycling used to be every week, and collection of trash was free. Our taxes, rents and the cost of stickers are not going down, but trash collection service would be.
The cost benefits of this plan are vague. Consider another way to economize.
