GREENFIELD — Police received a report of a possible break-in at The Enthusiast smoke and vape shop Saturday night, one day after the building was severely damaged by a fire.

According to the Greenfield police log, a caller reported a possible break-in at the shop, located at 271 Federal St., at 10:14 p.m. The caller heard glass breaking, but initially didn’t see anyone. On a separate, later call, the reporting person described a figure with a mask enter the building. The suspect was described as being 5 feet, 6 inches tall, thin, wearing a hooded shirt, mask, gloves and a backpack.

An officer requested a police tracking dog, according to the log, but one was not available. Officer Joshua Lemay later located a possible suspect near Greenfield Cooperative Bank. When reached by phone Monday, Lt. William Gordon said he was not aware of any arrests that had been made.

Officials said the two-alarm fire that severely damaged the building Friday night was likely not intentional. The Enthusiast, which occupies the entirety of the building’s first floor, was closed Saturday as a result of the blaze. The building also contains a second-floor apartment.
