‘Xtreme Gathering’

ORANGE — The North Quabbin Trail Association has scheduled an “Xtreme Gathering” for the Orange Innovation Center at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Cody Potosky of Battlefrog ORC (Obstacle Race Course) will speak and there will be videos of Battlefrog races. Visitors will also be able to see plans on how trail association is building the Orange Innovation Center Lucky 13 Fit Trail to be designed using ORC’s expertise.

Bruins mascot will be at library

ORANGE — Blades the Bruin, the mascot of the Boston Bruins hockey team, will be at Wheeler Memorial Library at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9.

You can sign up for this event in person in the library’s children’s room, or by calling the library at 978-544-2495, ext. 103.

This event is geared primarily for kids ages 5 to 10, but the whole family is welcome.

Voter deadline

ORANGE — Aug. 19 is the final day to register to vote for the Sept. 8 state primary election. Anyone registered to vote does not have to re-register.

The people who need to contact the town clerk’s office before Aug. 19 are: Anyone who has moved to town, or within the town, or has changed their address, mailing address or name. The town clerk’s office will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 19 only for voter registration. All other offices in Town Hall will be closed that day.

Absentee ballots for the state primary election are now available in the town clerk’s office. Anyone with questions, can call 978-544-1100, ext. 101.

Athol going forward on school buildings

ATHOL — According to the town website, the Athol Board of Selectmen on Aug. 2 endorsed proceeding with disposition of four former elementary schools in accordance with Town Manager Shaun A. Suhoski’s report and recommendations.

A request for proposals for reuse of the Riverbend and Ellen Bigelow schools and campus will reportedly be issued no later than Aug. 24 and will be posted online as well.

Athol DPW seeking bids

ATHOL — Sealed bids, appropriately marked “MAGNESIUM TREATED SALT WITH RUST INHIBITOR,” will be received, publicly opened and read, at the office of the Department of Public Works at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 16.

Contract documents for the preparation of bids for the proposed work are at the Department of Public Works, 584 Main St., Room 24. The hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
