GREENFIELD — A project by Greening Greenfield to rehabilitate the brownfield site at 34 Riddell St. with a concrete skate park has been chosen as a finalist for ArtPlace America’s 2016 National Creative Placemaking Fund.

The highly competitive program invests money in cities and towns across the country where arts-related activity helps drive community development projects. Greenfield’s skate park project is one of 80 projects being considered out of the 1,361 initial applications ArtPlace reviewed.

Proposed by Greening Greenfield, the project would involve community leaders partnering with local government, artists and landscape designers to turn the Riddell Street site into a concrete skate park that would cap the brownfield and create an asset for local skaters.

According to Greening Greenfield member Susan Worgaftik, the group recently submitted its full proposal to ArtPlace, which will convene the peer experts for an in-person panel meeting this fall and announce the final projects, in which it will invest a total of $10.5 million, in December.
