GREENFIELD — Gov. Charlie Baker’s veto of $100,000 for furnishings and equipment for the new Greenfield Senior/Community Center in this year’s budget has been overridden by the state Legislature.

Both the House and Senate overrode the governor’s veto Sunday, on the last day of Formal Session, according to Rep. Paul Mark, D-Peru, who introduced the amendment for the funding in April. It is included as part of the Council on Aging line item in the state budget.

The money will be used to provide the new Senior/Community Center with the furnishings and equipment that were not included in the modified plan approved by Town Council this spring, which cut $1 million from the price tag.

The council approved $4.2 million to fund the project after seeing redesigned plans that lowered the cost of the building by reducing square footage and removing amenities that could be added at a later time, including furnishings.
