GREENFIELD — Sean A. Jordan, 51, of Colrain has been arraigned in Greenfield District Court on charges of possession of an incendiary device, in this case, large home-made fireworks.

According to a report by Trooper Brian Clapprood of the State Police Shelburne Falls barracks, Jordan was making fireworks and explosives in his garage at 12 East Colrain Road.

Police were initially alerted on June 29, when they received a complaint of explosions coming from the home. On the evening of June 30, Sgt. David McKearney went to investigate and, though Jordan was not home, McKearney observed explosive materials through the garage windows.

According to Clapprood’s report, McKearney requested assistance from the State Police Bomb Unit. Jordan arrived home and gave his consent to have the property searched.

Police found five pounds of aluminum powder, 20 pounds of potassium perchlorate, cannon fuses and cardboard cylinders, according to the report.

Jordan admitted that he had been building M80s, M100s, M200s and even larger explosives in the garage, and that he also sold them. He said he ordered the materials by mail, according to the report.

Police also found firearms in the house and marijuana plants growing in the basement, which were both seized.

Jordan was arraigned in court Friday before Judge Paul Smyth, with Francis McDonald as his defense attorney. He was released and advised of the potential for bail revocation. He was scheduled to return to court for a pretrial conference on Sept. 26.
