HINESBURG, Vt. — Vermont Gas Systems officials have announced that the utility has entered a critical land deal with Hinesburg that allows for construction to begin on a natural gas pipeline in the town.
At a meeting Thursday night, the Hinesburg Selectboard approved the extension of the Addison Natural Gas Project through land donated to the town, now Geprags Park.
Vermont Gas officials say the Hinesburg plot was the last remaining parcel needed to secure full access to the project’s right-of-way.
A key component to the agreement is the utility’s use of horizontal drilling, which is said to have a low impact on surface lands. The town will receive $250,000 in the deal.
Residents against the pipeline argued that Geprags Park should be protected from industry interference.
