Eighty-four dead! Over 200 injured! Mowed down like grass in the streets of Nice, France, by an evil assault truck! The same kind used by Timothy McVeigh to blow up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.
When are our legislators going to wake up and ban these horrible weapons of mass destruction? No one needs a vehicle capable of such death and carnage.
Trucks should be limited to carrying only 10 pounds of weight, be made of foam rubber (like a Nerf ball), governed to a speed of less than 10 mph and have a fuel tank capacity of 10 teaspoonfuls. We must have a ban on these dangerous assault trucks!

Sounds pretty stupid, doesn’t it? You’re right it does, and it is. Removing the word “truck” and adding the word “gun” does not make it sound any smarter. We blame the person who drove that truck and not the truck itself for the horror he caused.
Likewise we should blame the shooter and not the gun. Firearms, like trucks, are machines. They do what they do at the will of a human being.
What we don’t need is more gun control. We need to change the evil that lies in certain people’s hearts, but that’s harder to do, so we fall back on what’s easy. Bans have never worked and gun control is the final refuge of a shallow intellect.
