Brian Lamore advanced to the championship match of the Beacon Clay Court Classic Tennis Tournament as he defeated Bill Thompson, 7-5, 6-2, during the semifinals Tuesday in Greenfield.

The championship match will take place today at 5:30.

Lamore does not yet know who his opponent will be because the other semifinal on Tuesday between Dave Deherdt and Field Maloney was suspended due to darkness. Deherdt won the first set 6-3, but Maloney came back to take the second set 6-4. The two men will get together early today to play the decisive third set. The winner will then advance to the finals to face Lamore.

Wood Racket Tournament

Registrations are now being accepted for a Wood Racket Tennis Tournament Aug. 8 through 11 at the Beacon Field Clay Courts in Greenfield.

The tournament is best of three sets and there will be a consolation bracket for players who lose in the first round. The tournament is open to anyone. Cost is $10 and a can of unopened tennis balls. Draw will take place at 5:30 on the first day of the tournament and matches will take place at 5:30 every day.

Adult softball

Greenfield Co-Rec

Donald Demers and Sam Parker each went 3-for-4 on Tuesday night and Brad’s Place doubled up Spirit Shoppe, 12-6, in a Greenfield Co-Rec Softball League game at Hillside Park in Greenfield.

Molly Wickline went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Chris Desautels had three hits for Spirit Shoppe.

• In other action, John Dawicki, Bryan Borges-Vega and Caitlin Millett each had four hits to help Montague Elks Lodge to a 25-17 win over Hot-L Warren at Greenfield Middle School.

Jessica Dawicki had three hits in the win.

Ryan Bernard had five hits in the loss, and Lea Appel had three hits.

PV Women’s

Morgan Dodge belted a two-run home run on Tuesday and Colrain edged Conway, 8-7, in a Pioneer Valley Women’s League softball game in Conway.

Candy Laflamme and Cassie Kazar each had three hits in the win.

Kristin Ouellette singled, doubled and drove in two runs in the loss, and Elizabeth Unaitis singled, doubled and plated one run.

Golf

Ladies 18-hole

Phyllis Canon shot a 77 to win low gross in the A Division of the Ladies 18 Hole Golf League at the Country Club of Greenfield on Tuesday.

The league held a Criers Tournament, in which players could substitute par for two worst holes on front and back nine. Ann McHugh won low net in the A Division with a 57.

Jane Plumley won low gross in the B Division with a 82, while Donna Mowry and Maureen Barclay tied for low net with a 56.

Edge Hill Men

Lewis Goodnow shot a 37 to win low gross in the A Division during the Tuesday Men’s League at Edge Hill Golf Course in Ashfield.

Jeff Carantit won low net with a 33. Justin Mickiewicz won the point quota at plus-four, and Ronnie Parker was closest to the pin on No. 10 at 25 feet, 2 inches.

Tom Miner won low gross in the B Division with a 40 and also won the point quota at plus-seven. Charlie Plesnar won low net with a 33, and Jon Sonntag was closest to the pin on No. 10 at 70-2.

Erving League

Tim Herk and Rodney Ebbighausen combined to shot a 35 to win low gross during the Erving League at the Northfield Golf Club on Tuesday.

Marty Adams and Dave Mooney won low net with a 29 after a match of cards. Adams was closest to the pin on No. 6 at 33-9, while Herk was closest on No. 7 (10 feet, 9 inches).

Ebbighausen was the match medalist following a match of cards with a 37, and Matt Deane continues to lead the race for the Erving Cup with 24 points.

Matt’s Men’s League

Matt Betsold shot a 36 to win low gross during the Matt’s Men’s League at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls on Tuesday.

Bob White won low net with a 29. Jon Snow was closest to the pin on No. 7 (6-7), while Betsold was closest on No. 9 (8-6). Jon Hall and Noah Wallace won the most points with six.

Alfie Mitchell and John Passiglia lead the standings with 18½ points, while Hall and Wallace are second with 17 points. Jim Whitney and Wendell Barton are third with 16½ points.

Basketball

DRIVE Boys Varsity

Tucker Llwelyn scored 25 points on Monday and Whitney Fence defeated Brattleboro, 67-43, in a DRIVE Hoops Boys’ Varsity Basketball League playoff game at Messer Gymnasium in Northfield.

Brendan Emond added 10 points in the win.

Ian Fulton Black led all scorers with 28 points in the loss.

• In other action, Kevin Mendez poured in 25 points and Greenfield defeated Keene, 57-41.

Jake Turner netted 17 points in the loss.

• In playoff action at Reed Gymnasium in Hadley, Mark Bihler’s 19 points helped Hampshire to a 68-57 win over Hadley.

Sam’i Roe led all scorers with 34 points in the loss, and John Earle added 23.

• Finally, Zach Cristafori notched 18 points and Easthampton knocked off Northampton, 60-33.

Henry Attias dropped 11 points for Northampton.

DRIVE Girls Varsity

Raegan Hickey’s 13 points helped Greenfield cruise past Hatfield, 63-12, in a DRIVE Hoops Girls’ Varsity Basketball League playoff game Monday at Stoneleigh-Burnham School in Greenfield.

• In the other playoff game, Kylie Fleming scored 8 points and Turners Falls edged the Panthers, 32-23.

Jessica Scoville led the Panthers with 6 points.

Valley Storm tryouts

The Valley Storm Softball organization will hold tryouts for its various fast-pitch teams during the month of August.

The Storm has a 12U, 14U and 16U team and the following is information on tryouts for each:

Road racing

Elms track benefit

A 3.5-mile road race will be held Saturday in Northfield to benefit the new track and field team at Elms College in Chicopee.

The race will start at Northfield Town Hall at 10 a.m., with registration beginning at 9:15 a.m. Registration fee is $7 per person, and children under 12 years old can run for free.

The low-key race is open to participants of all ability levels who may choose to run or walk the course. Prizes will awarded to the top three male and female finishers.

Funds raised will go toward buying uniforms, equipment and other necessities for the new track and field team, which will compete in its inaugural season in the spring of 2017.

Montague Mug Race

The 36th annual Montague Mug Race will be held on Aug. 20 in Montague Center.

The 5.5-mile race begins at 8:30 a.m. from the Village Common. Pewter Mugs are awarded to top male and female finishers, and coffee mugs are given to the to top finishers of each division. T-shirts will be available for the first 90 runners.

Now in its 12th year, the 2-mile Mini Mug Race will kick off at 8:35 a.m.

Both races will finish at the ball field. All runners are entered into drawing for local prizes.

The 22nd annual Don Maynard Memorial 5-Mile Road Race and 3-mile walk will held Sept. 17 at 9:30 a.m. at the Greenfield Municipal Swimming Area.
