Earn your Junior Ranger Patch from Mass Parks! Become a Connecticut River Watershed expert and find out who lives along the canal and river in Turners Falls. Ages 8 to 11. Workshops are at 10:30 a.m. on Mondays, July 25 and Aug. 1, 6 and 15. Friends and siblings welcome. Children with a parent/guardian should meet at the Discovery Center lobby. Free. Canalside Rail Trail Walk
July 31, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Meet outside main entrance and join a DCR Park Interpreter to leisurely explore bike trails and village sidewalks to hear stories of industrialization, cultural and natural history, and resilience along the Connecticut River and Turners Falls Power Canal.

Come help the Franklin Land Trust on the Walnut Hill Woods Trail in Buckland. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, July 29. Work alongside FLT staff and a Student Conservation Association (SCA) Massachusetts AmeriCorps trail crew on some of the finishing touches to a new 1one-mile trail. Bring water, a pack lunch and clearing or digging tools if you have them. Franklin Land Trust is holding its annual Deerfield Dirt Road Randonnee bike ride on Saturday, Aug. 20. The course follows our region’s narrowest, oldest, quietest and most scenic dirt roads. Over 1,400 bike riders from around the world participate. Rides range from 20 flat miles along the Deerfield River to ones as long as 100 kilometers. The ride is a key fundraiser for the land trust.
