Quidditch on the Library Lawn: On Mondays from 6:30 to 8 p.m., rain or shine, everybody plays Quidditch, the game based on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts School rivalry. Best for ages 7 and up.

Mother Goose on the Loose: Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m., join Kay Lyons at a lap-sit story hour for children age 3 and under, with a grown-up. Kay reads books, leads the group in hand rhymes, and uses puppets to teach animal sounds and other concepts new to the very young. Each session is 45 minutes, with half an hour of structured activity and about fifteen minutes of visiting time.

Genealogy 101: On Tuesday at 6 p.m. this week and next week, learn about researching your family history with genealogist, Kris Schramel. With this follow-up to the introductory lecture, the computers in the Adult Computer Area will be available for genealogy research. Kris will help sort through the available resources and set a solid foundation for finding your ancestors. This session is free and open to all.

Children’s Book Writers Group: Adults who write for children are invited to attend a critique group in the LeVanway Room the third Tuesday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. The group will be facilitated by Nell Wright. Make Cool Book Ends: Use your imagination to create book ends to suit your style on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Join the Teen Advisers for fun crafts each week throughout the summer.

Summer Reading Special Program: Ready, Steady, Read-Music and Drumming

Join us on Wednesday at 6 p.m. for a great summer reading program with Craig Harris, Western Mass percussionist. The Ready, Steady, Read: Rhythmic Moves is a program of global songs, stories, collective music making, and guided movement. Craig Harris, local percussionist, will have everyone listen, dance, and make music. Great fun for the whole family. Refreshments to follow. This program is funded in part by a grant from the Greenfield Local Cultural Council, which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Chess Club: Every Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m., come to the library to play chess. The last Wednesday of each month will feature a speed chess tournament. Contact calderrossi@gmail.com with any questions.

Makerspace Workshop: Join us on Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon for this do-it-yourself workshop featuring a 3D Printer, a CNC Router, and opportunities to use many materials to create to your heart’s content.

Reading Relay: Kids of all ages will love our All Ages Read-Aloud on Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m. Children’s Librarian Kay Lyons or a guest reader will read picture books, folk tales, or passages from favorite chapter books in a theme each week, with sing-along songs and some puppetry to. Writers’ Lunch Workshop: On Fridays from noon to 2 p.m., Jane Buchanan and Joannah Whitney offer a workshop which includes writing exercises and discussion as well as an opportunity to share what has been written. Participants are encouraged to attend the open writing periods during the week as well. There is no charge for the workshop and registration is not required.
