Jake Petrin and Bryce Avery combined on a three-hitter and struck out eight to lead Greenfield to a 13-1 win over Northampton in the 10-and-under division of the Belchertown Mini-Fenway Tournament Friday night.
Aver and Nico Fasulo each belted three hits while Dylan Archer added two hits and an RBI and Michael Pierce finished with a hit and an RBI.
Greenfield improved to 3-0 in pool play and with the win Greenfield advances to the championship game on Sunday at 11:30.
Greenfield Co-Rec
Dakota Dodge went 5-for-5 and hit for the cycle as Smitty’s Pub defeated Mesa Verde, 20-13, in Greenfield Co-Rec Softball League play Friday night at the Greenfield Middle School.
Tim Momaney finished with four hits, including a double, while Kristin Ouellette finished with three hits for Smitty’s.
Heather Lively and Joe Guidaboni each had two hits for Mesa Verde.
In other action, Jake Coburn crushed three home runs as Brad’s Place rolled over About Town Taxi, 17-7, at Hillside Park.
Alyssa Sheperd finished with two hits including a home run for Brad’s.
Mark Kosloski and Belle Coffey each had two hits for About Town Taxi.
Connor Joy scored a game-high 21 points and Kevin Mendez added 18 to lead Greenfield to a 75-41 win over Turners Falls in a DRIVE Hoops Boys’ Varsity League game Thursday night at Messer Gymnasium in Northfield.
Ricky Craver led Turners Falls with 15 points.
Elsewhere, Ian Fulton-Black totaled a game-high 24 as Brattleboro, Vt. bested Lundgren Honda, 56-51.
Colin Gould registered 15 points for Lundgren.
Also, Keene, N.H., used 15 from Steve Raymond to defeat Twin Valley (Vt.), 48-37.
Brett Cormier led all scorers with 18 for Twin Valley.
In Boys’ Varsity League games at Reed Gymnasium in Hadley, Henry Doherty hit for 17 to lead Noho over Belchertown, 49-45; Easthampton used 20 from Zach Christafori to get past Granby, 54-52; Aisha Smith drained a season-high 37 in Smith Voke’s 71-57 win over Hadley despite a season-high 36 from Justin Ciaglo; and Mark Bihler’s 14 helped Hampshire beat Hatfield, 68-20.
In Girls’ Varsity League play Thursday at Stoneleigh-Burnham School in Greenfield, Raegan Hickey finished with 14 points to lead Greenfield over Turners Falls, 45-28.
Maddy Chmyzinski led Turners with 14.
Also, the Panthers received 15 points from Logan Anderson in a 51-18 win over Hatfield.
Emily Witazen had 6 for Hatfield.
In Men’s League play from Wednesday at Messer Gymnasium, Liam Ellis dumped in a game-high 28 and Malcolm Smith added 17 to lead FC United over Keene, N.H., 80-73.
Ryan Boyle had 17 for Keene.
Elsewhere, VT Nameless edged Snow & Sons Landscaping, 83-78, behind 24 from Chris Brown and 22 from Ethan Slavin.
Matt Sulda bucketed 22 and Nick Seretta 20 for Snow & Sons.
Also, Xavier Cruz’s 28 and Mike Menard’s 17 carried Dunkin’ Donuts past Hilltown Helpers, 76-46.
Alex Dekoschak finished with 18 and Tom Manning added 11 for Hilltown.
Finally, Jake Ross poured in 31 and Brian Clark chipped in 21 to help DRIVE Hoops beat Functional Fitness, 108-58.
Baylee Church was the top scorer for Functional Fitness with 15.
Bay State Games
The West Bay State girls’ basketball team went 1-1 on Friday defeating the Northeast team 68-54 and lost to the Southeast 51-43.
In the opening contest against the Northeast, Raegen Hickey of Greenfield High School scored 7 points and Jess Scoville of Pioneer Valley Regional School chipped in with 2 points.
In the second game against the Southeast, Caroline Merkle of Pioneer Valley Regional School finished with 2 points.
