Pleaded guilty to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, to wit, a door, placed on probation until 6/27/17, with victim witness assessment of $50, must stay 50 yards away from and have no contact with the alleged victim, and must take and complete a specified program. Pleaded guilty to a lesser included charge of assault and battery, amended down from assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, to wit, a refrigerator, placed on probation until 6/27/17. Found innocent in a jury trial for charge of strangulation or suffocation. Admitted to sufficient facts for possession of a firearm without a firearms identification card, and sufficient facts found, but continued without a finding until 10/31/16, with victim witness assessment of $50, and must not possess any firearms. Admitted to sufficient facts for second charge of possession of firearms without a firearms identification card, and sufficient facts found, but continued without a finding until 10/31/16 and with same conditions as in previous charge. Admitted to sufficient facts for improper storage of a firearm, and sufficient facts found, but continued without a finding until 10/31/16, with same conditions as in the two previous charges. Third and fourth charges of possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, and second charge of improper storage of a firearm, were all dismissed on request of the Commonwealth. Anthony M. Dewdney, 35, of School Street, Shelburne Falls. Pleaded innocent to breaking and entering into a building in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony, and malicious destruction of property over $250 value, in Montague, released on personal recognizance, must stay away from and have no contact with the alleged victim, and stay away from a specified Avenue A address, in Turners Falls, continued to 8/3/16 for pretrial conference. Must pay $150 legal counsel fee.

Lawrence G. Welcome, 23, of South Prospect Street, Millers Falls. Found responsible for failure to notify the Registry of Motor Vehicles of change of name or address, in Northfield, fined $35. Charges of operating with suspended registration, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both dismissed on request of the Commonwealth.

Hector L. Santos, 41, of Amherst. Found responsible for operating with suspended license, in Whately, fined $200 and decriminalized, to wit, converted to a civil complaint.

Austin C. Sikes, 69, of South Newfane, Vt. Charge of operating under the influence of liquor, fourth or greater offense, and failure to stop or yield, were not prosecuted, as according to a written statement from a counsel in the district attorney’s office, a replacement complaint has been issued but not yet processed.

Celine Cartagena, 18, of Turners Falls Road, Turners Falls. Pleaded innocent to unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and marked lanes violation, in Greenfield, released on personal recognizance, continued to 7/29/16.

Alexander L. Lapenta, 26, of Dickinson Street, Greenfield. Pleaded innocent to operating under the influence of liquor, and being a licensee carrying a firearm while intoxicated, released on personal recognizance, continued to 8/23/16. Must pay $150 legal counsel fee.

Brian F. Ahearn, 55, listed as homeless of Turners Falls. Two charges of assault and battery were not prosecuted, as according to a written statement from a counsel in the district attorney’s office, due to the victims assertion of his Fifth Amendment privilege not to testify, as well as other problematic evidentiary issues, the Commonwealth can’t meet its burden of proof.

Must pay $65 per month probation supervision fee, for six months, and then $50 per month for six more months.

Brian N. Sykes, 26, of Walnut Hill Road, Orange. Charges of operating under the influence of liquor, same date as in previous case, dismissed on request of the Commonwealth. Found not responsible for marked lanes violation. Must pay $150 legal counsel fee, and $100 legal counsel contribution.

James A. Snow, 50, of Summit Street, Athol. Found guilty following a jury trial for strangulation or suffocation, amended down from assault and battery on a family or household member, and resisting arrest, assault and battery on a person 60 or over and/or disabled, and intentional intimidating of a witness, a juror, police or court official, and is now being held pending the sentencing on 7/29/16. The defendant was found innocent of a charge of assault and battery on a police officer in the jury trial. Must pay $150 legal counsel fee.

Andrew O. Bates, 30, of Millers Falls Road, Montague. Charge of doing malicious damage to a motor vehicle, in Greenfield, to be dismissed on payment of $150 restitution, and must write a letter of apology to the victim.

Sean M. Stedman, 44, of High Street, Greenfield. Admitted to sufficient facts for malicious destruction of property over $250 value, in Montague, placed on probation until 12/29/17 with victim witness assessment of $90, and concurrent with sentence in another case. Restitution yet to be determined. Must pay $65 per month probation supervision fee.

Admitted to sufficient facts for using a motor vehicle without authority, placed on probation until 12/29/17 and must continue current treatment, and must have no drugs or alcohol, subject to screens/tests, must attend AA programs, must sign releases so that probation can determine if the defendant has attended programs ordered by the judge, must have mental health evaluation, and must take any after-care treatment recommended. Admitted to sufficient facts for larceny over $250 by a single scheme, placed on probation until 12/29/17 with the same conditions as in the previous count. Must provide a DNA sample to the state data bank. Restitution yet to be determined. Must pay $150 legal counsel fee.

Found responsible for being a person under 21 in possession of liquor, fined $50 and decriminalized, to wit, converted to a civil complaint.

Ronald D. Vatalaro, 47, of Heather Court, Greenfield. Admitted to sufficient facts for inducing a chased minor into sexual intercourse, sentenced to three years straight probation, until 6/28/19, with victim witness assessment of $90, and no unsupervised contact with children under 18, except with his own biological daughter, must stay 100 yards away from and have no contact with the victim, must wear GPS monitoring device, and no social media or internet except as authorized by probation. Must pay $65 per month probation supervision fee.
