CHARLEMONT — To garner support and boost fundraising for Charlemont Inn renovations, a group called the Charlemont Historical Preservation Society will hold an open house at the inn Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

Charlemont Inn owners go back to Housing Court on July 15, when they are to submit a detailed business plan that would include a schedule of required building repairs for the inn built in 1775, along with a financial plan for how work is to be paid for.

Town officials have taken the owners to court over sanitary code violations, and are asking the court to appoint a receiver who will invest the money necessary to finish the roof work, restore plumbing, heat and an upgraded electrical system to the 22-room building.

An announcement sent out by Susan Ferency, secretary of the Charlemont Historical Preservation Society, invites people to come to the open house, “so that you can see for yourself the work that has been done on the property and what the upcoming projects are. Decide for yourself if the property should be taken away from those that have worked the longest and the hardest to re-open and re-occupy the inn.”

The note also asks for either a tax deductible donation of any amount or a pledge for working hours. Also, people could purchase a gift certificate they could later spend at the inn after it reopens. And, those who have the financial ability might consider giving a loan for one of the projects.

The request for donations says the money won’t be used until after the court date, and only if the owners are successful in continuing ownership.

Donations are requested to be sent online to:
