SWIFT RIVER VALLEY HISTORICAL SOCIETY museum is open Wednesday and Sunday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. until Sept. 18. The museum is located at 40 Elm St. in New Salem. It showcases the Lost Valley composed of the towns of Enfield, Dana, Greenwich and Prescott, which were flooded to create the Quabbin Reservoir. Admission is free, but donations are gladly accepted.
THE FRIENDS OF THE MONTAGUE PUBLIC LIBRARIES will hold its annual meeting at Carnegie Library on Avenue A in Turners Falls on July 28 from 6 to 6:30 p.m. The date I gave you last week was incorrect — sorry.
Immediately following the meeting, Ed Gregory will offer an interactive visual program showing the Upper Fall River Dam and its environs. The program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
BAYSTATE HEART AND VASCULAR PROGRAMwill hold a free community lecture and tour on Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s main conference rooms just inside the main entrance.
Presenters Senthil Sivalingam and Heba Wassif will share information about the latest advances in heart and vascular care available in Greenfield. There will also be a tour of the program’s new location, and heart-healthy refreshments will be served. Handouts will be provided.

JOHN BERKOWITZ WILL READ his poems, as well as poetry and prose by other local and nationally known authors at Greenfield Senior Center in the Weldon off High Street on Wednesday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The works are about living fully, aging gracefully, dealing with grief and loss and befriending death.
“The Poetry of Growing Older: The Joys and Challenges of Aging,” is sponsored by the Greenfield Council on Aging. To register, call 413-772-1517. The program is free.
SHELBURNE FALLS MILITARY BAND will perform on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls. The theme is “Children’s Night.” It will include music from “Jurassic Park,” “It’s a Small World,” and more. Shelburne Historical Society will serve popcorn, ice cream and lemonade at prices of yesteryear. The concert is free and open to the public.
GREENFIELD SENIOR CENTER will offer a nutrition workshop, “Limbo Lower Now,” on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Learn which fats are good for the diet and what added sugars are and how they can be limited. Registration is required by calling 413-772-1517.

MOHAWK TRAIL CONCERTS will again celebrate the Fourth of July with a free jazz concert featuring the Miro Sprague Trio at the Federated Church on Route 2 in Charlemont on July 4 at 4 p.m. The trio made its western Massachusetts debut at the Arts Block in March.
BUCKLAND-SHELBURNE CUB SCOUTS Pack 85 will hold its annual Fourth of July chicken barbecue on July 4 following the parade to Buckland-Shelburne Elementary School. For $12 you get a half chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, roll and beverage. Find a seat under the tent or take a container to go. It will be held rain or shine. There’s ample parking at the school.
GREENFIELD MILITARY BAND will hold a concert on July 5 from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Energy Park on Miles Street in Greenfield. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy. Flute soloist Maria Scotera will perform.
GREENFIELD COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATOR MJ Adams will talk about the “tiny house” trend, small apartment movement and bungalow village concept on July 5 at 6:30 p.m. in Greenfield Public Library.
Sustainable Greenfield calls for expanding options for residents to live in walkable neighborhoods and reduce reliance on automobiles for work, services and recreation. The Town of Greenfield is working to make a site on Deerfield Street available for a new development. Attend, and explore the options.
AN INTRODUCTION TO ANCESTRY RESEARCH with genealogist Kris Schramel on July 5 at 6 p.m. in the LeVanway Room of Greenfield Public Library. The series will continue with two computer workshops on July 19 and 26 at 6 p.m. in the adult computer area of the library on Main Street in Greenfield.
