MONTAGUE — The search is on for a new principal at Sheffield Elementary School, and the Gill-Montague School District is asking for the community’s input.
Superintendent Michael Sullivan will hold a meeting to hear from parents and community members who want to share their ideas about the qualities they hope to see in a new principal on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Sheffield auditorium.
The search process started after Principal Sharon Moberg decided to accept an elementary school principal job in Hampden to reduce her daily commute from Springfield and to be closer to home to care for an aging parent, she said in her letter to parents announcing her resignation. Her last day is June 30.
“I have truly enjoyed working at Sheffield Elementary School and getting to know all of you. I have built very strong relationships with your children, and I will miss them greatly,” Moberg wrote. “I am immensely proud of what Sheffield has achieved and am grateful that I have been able to play a central part in the school’s success.”
At a recent Gill-Montague School District meeting, Sullivan commended Moberg for her service to the school community.
“I would like to thank Sharon for her four years of service to the district. Sharon brings a great deal of energy and charisma to her work and this, combined with the very long hours she works every week, have gone a long way to make Sheffield Elementary a proud, inclusive and vibrant school well connected to its parents and families.”
The district will assemble a search committee to review applications, interview candidates and select up to three finalists. The search committee will be composed of four people from the Sheffield staff, two district administrators, two parents and at least one School Committee member.
The search committee will be receiving applications until Thursday. “Our goal is to get someone in that position by the fall,” Sullivan said.
