Shelburne, Colrain, and Conway have unanimously chosen the Solar Store of Greenfield to be the installer for their towns’ property owners who want to buy and install solar-electric panels through SolarizeMass.
The three-town collaborative, known as Solarize Mass. Shelburne-Colrain-Conway, received seven bids from both local and national solar panel installers and selected three companies to interview: All Energy Solar, Northeast Solar and the Solar Store of Greenfield. The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), which sponsors the state-wide Solarize program and offers marketing grants to participating communities, also paid for solar consulting services of the Cadmus Group to provide a technical review of the seven bids.
“It was a difficult decision,” said John Walsh, solar coach for Shelburne. “We received strong proposals from many well-qualified bidders. We chose the Solar Store of Greenfield because they offered a very competitive installation price, are bringing a very knowledgeable team of project managers and installers, and because all the economic benefits they help create will stay right here in our local economy.”
With an installer company now on board, SolarizeMass. plans to officially start the project in early July with “meet the installer” presentations in each community.
Since Solarize organizing first began six months ago, more than 150 residents of Shelburne, Colrain and Conway have expressed interest in obtaining a group discount on solar panels.
“We want to make sure that every resident of the three communities who is interested in going solar has the chance to participate in this Solarize group discount project,” said Brice Hereford, solar coach for Conway. For more information go to
