MONROE — This town of 115 residents will set its budget for the new fiscal year at an annual town meeting on Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Hall.

If all 30 articles are approved, the town will spend about $698,985 for schools, roads, town salaries, county services and other costs.

This year’s school assessments are $47,779 for the town’s share of operating expenses for the Northern Berkshire Vocational School District and $193,776 for its Northern Berkshire School Union.

Town salaries and compensation for elected officials total $44,978.

The operating costs for town departments will total $263,425.

In addition, the town is asked to pay $23,968 for sewer treatment plant operator salaries, and $30,000 for sewer treatment plant operations and maintenance.

The Highway Department is asking for $20,000 for fuel and $32,000 for road construction, maintenance and repair.

The following expenditures are to come from the town’s “free cash” surplus revenue: $10,000 for a Highway Vehicle Stabilization Account; $30,000 for the Fire/Highway Municipal building Stabilization Account, and $10,000 to go into General Stabilization.

The town is asking voters to reduce the three-person Board of Assessors to a single assessor, as is allowed by state law.

Also, residents will be asked to approve the appointments of Clifford Oakes and Douglas Oakes Jr. to serve the following positions: fence viewers, measurers of wood and bark, measurers of lumber, field drivers and pound keepers. Douglas Oakes Sr. is to serve as the town’s burial agent.
