While I appreciate the picture of Harvey Mulvey receiving his high school diploma on the cover of The Recorder, I feel bewildered by the fact that the staff felt the need to use the word disabled in front of the word student in the photo caption. Sadly, I feel this reflects institutionalized discrimination toward individuals with physical and/or cognitive challenges. Harvey is a student graduate. Harvey may have physical limitations, but Harvey is a student first and foremost. Harvey is a proud, excited young man receiving his diploma.
