SOUTH DEERFIELD — Town Police, fire and South County EMS rescue workers were called around 2 p.m. Thursday after a blue Hyundai crashed into the back of a black Toyota pickup truck.
Both drivers climbed out of the cars on their own and walked away from the accident. They also both refused to go the hospital. No one else was hurt.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Sugarloaf Street and Route 116, at the base of Mount Sugarloaf.
“The Toyota was stopped at a red light,” said Deerfield Police Patrolman Brian Ravish, “and the Hyundai rear-ended him. Both (people) were checked at the scene.”
Ravish also said that the Hyundai was at-fault in the accident.
Police put down cones around the accident and didn’t have to close Route 116.
The accident looked worse than it was, with the front of the Hyundai crumpled from the impact. The car had to be taken away on a flatbed truck, and Ravish said all of the car’s airbags deployed, including the front and side curtains.
There was minimal damage to the truck, which drove away from the accident on its own.
The Fire Department wrapped up cleaning the road at about 2:30 p.m., and the scene was cleared soon after.
