SOUTH DEERFIELD — If you were driving through town Wednesday night and were surprised to see fire hydrants wide open along Sugarloaf Street, spewing water out onto the road, don’t worry. Nothing happened.
The department of public works was out flushing hydrants — a semi-annual event that drains the sediment from the hydrants and also tests them to make sure they’re working properly.
DPW workers were out working and shut down the hydrants soon after these photographs were taken, around 9 p.m.
