Orange, May 23

10:30 a.m. — Shelburne Control got a call about a bear in the backyard of a residence on East River Street; he was monitored by an officer and the Environmental Police was notified; the bear swam across the river toward East Main Street, and that area was monitored as well, but with no contact.

12:25 p.m. — Control got a call of two dogs stuck in the mud on Lake Rohunta; on arrival, the dogs were already back in their owner’s vehicle; no further action needed.

1:41 p.m. — Control reports the building inspector and the board of health are requesting an officer to assist with a walk through of an abandoned and insecure residence on East Myrtle Street; the property was found to be in disrepair, and there were signs that entry had been forced, and there may be people flopping there at night; services rendered.

4:05 p.m. — Officer on East River Street to serve a warrant; arrested was Jerome Joseph Martin, 26, of East River Street, Orange, on a default warrant.

4:30 p.m. — Caller from Walnut Hill Road states she can smell sewerage from a manhole; Orange Highway Department was contacted.

5:10 p.m. — Control reports a caller from asset protection on East Main Street regarding people who just stole tools from the store and fled in a red Hyundai Elantra with New Hampshire plates; the reporting person also warned the people involved may be armed; both units responded and a BOLO was issued; state police located the vehicle eastbound on Route 2 near exit 20; officer from here responded to assist, and all three people had warrants and were taken into custody; report filed, and more charges will be processed.

6:25 p.m. — Report of a hit and run accident on East Main Street where the reporting person told Control that a tractor trailer unit backed into a telephone pole, snapping it at the base; both units responded and the tractor trailer unit was gone, and the only description was that it had a gray cab and white box; the pole was damaged and both National Grid and Verizon were contacted; officer remained until National Grid arrived.

7:47 p.m. — Male and female were reported arguing and kicked some of the reporting person’s property about; the officer sent spoke with them, advised them of the complaint, and they were sent on their way.

10:22 p.m. — Control took a call regarding a large group of people gathered on New Athol Road, with some subjects fighting; Athol Police also took a call on this, and both units responded, and found the people involved were gone; officer spoke with a motorist who said there were roughly 8 to 10 people and two were fighting, but all left, in three vehicles, headed toward Athol.

Montague, May 24

2:48 p.m. — Shoplifting reportedly just occurred at Food City on Avenue A where the known female put a beer in her purse and left without paying for it; last seen on foot in front of Rite Aid, wearing yellow and green and wearing sandals, and the reporting person believes the brand of beer was Natural Ice, since that is the brand the female has stolen in the past. Officer attempting to make contact at the residence; investigation leads to arrest of Bliss C. Burg, 40, of Fourth Street, Turners Falls, charged with shoplifting.

3:17 p.m. — Caller from the F. L. Roberts station on Third Street reports she had a verbal exchange with another woman at this location and the reporting person stated the other person was screaming and yelling at her, and making threats to “get me,” and the reporting person believes this is a result of Facebook postings; officer spoke with her and advised her of options.

Greenfield, May 25

5:47 a.m. — Disturbance on Wells Street where the reporting person says a male and female are having an argument, the reporting person believes someone was thrown up against the wall; officers sent, and found the male was just packing his belongings and preparing for work; services rendered.

8:11 a.m. — Caller from the Frosted Bake Shop on Main Street reports they just had the dumpster emptied yesterday, and came to work today and it is full of household goods; officer responded, and found mail and court documents gathered from the dumped garbage listing a near by address; services rendered.

8:26 a.m. — Accident at Main and Davis Street where the caller says two vehicles are involved; one vehicle was struck from behind; no injuries reported; minor damage, information was exchanged.

12:22 p.m. — Disturbance reported at Riverside Drive where the caller says her female neighbor is kicking the walls and screaming, and it has been occurring for the past several days; officer made contact and learned the resident involved has developmental issues and has been knocking on the walls of the apartment, the officer spoke with the female and she agreed to stop.

1:08 p.m. — Accident on Main Street where a pick up truck rear-ended a cab; minor damage to the rear bumper of the cab, information was exchanged. and a citation issued.

1:13 p.m. — Suspicious activity reported by a walk-in, speaking about when he was fishing on the riverbank behind the Enterprise car rental on River Street; the reporting person was fishing around 5 p.m. on 5/23/16, when he believes he was shot at with what sounded like a pellet gun; he wasn’t hit with the pellet, but heard it go by his head; he then saw an unidentified male standing across the river, toward the railroad trestle, and believes it was this male the shot at him; he didn’t see any gun, but called over to this male that he was going to call the police; the male then shouted back that the reporting person was trespassing; the reporting person then left the area without further incident; follow up to be done with a landscape company in this area to see if they know anything about this incident; the walk-in report was completed at this time.

4:54 p.m. — Traffic stop on Wells Street by the Mill House Apartments, investigation leads to arrest of Emma Louise P. Knight, 21, of Abbott Street, Greenfield, for operating with suspended license, and on a warrant.

6:58 p.m. — Suspicious activity reported on Chapman Street where a caller says a vehicle is parked in the middle of the roadway, and says it appears to be an old gentleman operating, and seems to be confused; the vehicle is shut off and parked in the middle of the street; officers responded, and services rendered.

9:58 p.m. — Caller from Main and Miles Street reports a group of 10-15 people at this location being very loud and that it appears they may start to fight; officers responded, and found involved females were in a verbal altercation upon officer’s arrival, and the people were separated.

Montague, May 25

10:54 a.m. — Caller from Lake Pleasant Road reports there is a shirtless man planting something about 200 feet from the house at this location the reporting person advised as far as he is aware, no one is supposed to be at that house; on officer’s arrival a female was planting onions in a garden and the female’s husband were trying to make repairs to a vehicle that was running; officer contacted Eversource to learn if people are allowed on the property, as the property is still owned by Eversource, and they still don’t not want anyone on the property; both the Eversource and the woman doing the planting were each given each other’s contact information so arrangements can be made for the garden items to be removed; the two people also have bee hives on site, which Eversource also wanted removed.

Greenfield, May 26

2:13 a.m. — Report of an officer checking on a female yelling at Taylor’s Tavern; the female didn’t want to speak to the officer, and was sent on her way.

3:07 a.m. — Caller from Eastern Avenue by the First Congregational Church where the caller says a vehicle was slowly driving around the area and then parking in the church parking lot, and is just sitting there; officer found the known female, who was sleeping in her truck; she advised she was no longer allowed at her boyfriend’s home on Woodleigh Avenue.

3:10 a.m. — Reporting person from Woodleigh Avenue reports the involved male has come home on drugs, and is causing a disturbance; the reporting person is trying to get some sleep, but he is making too mush noise; officers were told the boyfriend is, “high on crack,” and is paranoid, and doing annoying things, such as turning the lights on and off; the male left to a friend’s home on request.

8:03 a.m. — Subject came into the station to turn in firearms; services rendered.

10 a.m. — Officer on Olive Street at the John W. Olver Transit Center to serve a warrant; arrested was Amanda Swift, 22, of Wells Street, Greenfield, on the warrant.

10:06 a.m. — Accident at the Greenfield Farmer’s Cooperative on High Street, where the caller says two vehicles backed into each other; officer found it to be minor accident, and assisted with paper exchange.

Montague, May 25

11:30 a.m. — Officers on Central Street to serve a warrant; officers are inside the residence. Arrested was Jillian Rose Ward, 30, of Central Street, Turners Falls, on the default warrant.

11:40 a.m. — Walk-in from Unity Park on First Street reports her medication was stolen out of her vehicle while she was at the park on Saturday on 5/21/16; officer spoke with her, and report taken.

5:19 p.m. — Report of an accident at Montague City and Turnpike roads; a vehicle and a motorcycle, with injury; officers sent, and then both Turners Falls Fire Department, and Medcare were notified; officer advising the motorcyclist is down, possible leg injury as well as other possible injuries, but the patient is conscious, alert and breathing; the tow truck was requested for the motorcycle; and a citation was issued to the operator of the Kia vehicle for failure to use care in turning. the motorcyclist was taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center. The Kia was also later towed.

9:03 p.m. — Caller from Randall Road reports two people just came to her door reportedly soliciting for Environment Massachusetts; the caller was concerned due to the time of day and that it’s dark out; she was startled for someone to come to the house this late; the only description was a female with an iPad or tablet, and a younger male with her; officer checked the Randall and Greenfield roads, but none found.

10:53 p.m. — Caller from Second Street reports there is very loud music and yelling coming from the second floor at this location; caller can’t tell if this is a party or people fighting, but stated this happens frequently; officers responded and spoke with the apartment tenant and they were advised of the complaint, and told to quiet down the music and voices for the night; officers notes it was very loud music and yelling from the same apartment on arrival in the area.

11:21 p.m. — Male caller from near the old bridge abutment on First Street reports when he arrived back at his vehicle after fishing in the area, his truck rear window was smashed; officer investigating.

Montague, May 26

12:18 a.m. — Female caller from Central Street spoke with an officer regarding her daughter being “jumped,” and her purse taken at about 9:30 this evening; she notes that both the daughter and the suspect are juveniles, 17-years-old; officer sent, and the reporting person was advised of options.

12:19 a.m. — Female caller reporting a train was idling in area of Lake Pleasant Road, near her home; she said it was unknown the duration of time there, although it has been there since her arrival home at 10:30 p.m.; no police services necessary.

1:14 a.m. — Male employee at the F.L. Roberts station/store on Third Street reports a shoplifting that occurred about five to six minutes prior to the call; a male, gray shirt, dark shorts, short light brown hair; the male went left when leaving out of the front door; the male took a 12 pack of beer; officer will see copy of tape to attempt to identify the person, and later the officer was out at a Second Street location with people from the tape, and the same that took beer from the store. Two males were taken into custody, and placed in the booking cell; one of them urinated in the holding cell, through the window, onto the office booking desk, on the BT machine, and on paper work; Medcare arrived, and the two male were taken to the hospital, with officer following, and one officer remained with one at the hospital, and one was later returned to the police station; arrested were Alexander Holden Jackson, 22, of Four Mile Brook, Northfield, charged with shoplifting, and Mark Joseph Smith Jr., 22, of Second Street, Turners Falls, also charged with shoplifting.
