I was deeply saddened to read Chris Collins’ account of the hatred expressed toward the Pierce brothers and Pierce Brothers Coffee Roasters. (Not on My Block, May 27). I have come to know Sean and Darren Pierce well in the 10 years I have lived in Greenfield, and they and their employees are a model for what a local, community-involved business should be. Their product is the best of its kind, and they treat their customers and community with respect and a commitment to excellence. They have made a personal and professional investment in Greenfield. Since I live walking distance from their Hope Street facility, I know the odor of roasting coffee (which does not bother me). If anyone is offended by it, I am sure there is a way to address that issue without resorting to hate speech and threats. Our community, and the Pierce brothers, deserve much better than this shameful behavior.
